Prairie Trails Wellness Center has released its fall schedule. It includes a new body weight-training program. Cheri Nessen will teach this 30-minute class involving exercises using only your own weight.
Nessen is a certified instructor of mat pilates. This beginner and immediate class increases range of motion and flexibility, and tones muscle with a high degree of abdominal work. It is no impact and good for all ages and sizes. She also teaches a 12 week weight-loss class focusing on nutrition and fitness education.
Both Cheri Nessen and her husband Mark will teach an indoor cycling class.
Prairie Trails offers a yoga class taught by certified instructor Holly Arnold, who has logged well over 200 hours. The focus of this program is strength and flexibility through poses that generate heat, and a guided relaxation segment at the end of each class.
Certified instructor Debbie Hullinger teaches a Latin-inspired dance workout called Zumba.
Also returning this fall is the kick-it core combo class taught by Melissa Dyer, which combines a 30 minute small equipment and mat workout with a 30 minute kickboxing, strength and cardio segment.
For members, lessons are free, with a $35 fee for walk-ins for an eight-week class.
Upcoming for next spring, Prairie Trails will hold a cholesterol screening, CPR/first aid training and a walk/run for children on St. Patrick’s Day.
Prairie Trails Wellness Center is a non-profit organization started in 2006. Classes are taught mostly by volunteer instructors. Board members include Eric Palmer, Mary Ann Little, Cindy Shelley, Valerie Richardson, Sue Darrah and Jean Wilson. They will hold a fall walkathon fundraiser in October. Please call 641-872-3473 to register your team by Sept. 27.
