Gary Lee Bracewell, 78, of Urbandale, Iowa, passed away March 15, 2017. Gary was born Sept. 23, 1938, in Allerton, Iowa, to Garland and Eunice Bracewell. Gary graduated from Allerton High School in the class of 1956. He served eight years in the Air Force and retired from the Federal Aviation Administration where he was an air traffic controller. He later worked as an insurance adjuster in Des Moines and Ft. Myers, Fla., before retiring a second time to Las Vegas, Nev.
Gary is survived by his wife, Marlis; two children from his first marriage, Julie Bracewell (Pat) of Dittmer, Mo., and Michael (Deb) Bracewell of Runnells. He married again in 1979 to Marlis Dietl who had two daughters by a previous marriage, Romi Kowalk (Jim) of Kellogg, Minn., and Merri Costello (Wayne) of Clive; eight grandchildren from the combined union, Ryan Shelledy, Nicole Shelledy, Ashley Kowalk, Tristan Bracewell, Rosie Bracewell, Anthony Costello, Evan Bracewell and Mason Costello; sister, Sue (Doug) Johns of Apache Junction, Ariz.; brother, Randy (Marie) Bracewell of Seattle, Wash., mother-in-law, Lisbeth Kuczynski (Oma) of Urbandale.
His brother, Michael Ted Bracewell preceded him in death.
Gary wished to be cremated and his ashes placed in the columbarium at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.
A memorial service was held March 18 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home and Crematory in Urbandale with Tim Diebel officiating.
