Reva Virginia Shipley passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017, at the Corydon Specialty Care in Corydon, Iowa. She was 95. Reva was born Sept. 6, 1921, the daughter of Howard and Ivah (Brattain) Boyce.
She attended school in LeRoy. After completing her schooling, Reva moved to Des Moines, where she spent six days each week as a care provider to an elderly woman. She worked there for 50 cents each day and room and board. Reva enjoyed her work and living in the city, but after three years, the love of her family and her future husband brought her back to Wayne County.
On June 28, 1941, she married Dwight Allen Shipley. Together, they raised a family while farming west of Allerton. Reva loved to cook and bake and always planted a big garden to provide for her family. She enjoyed her neighborhood Needle Craft Club and attended monthly from 1921 until her 95th year when she moved to the Care Center.
Reva was a member of the First Baptist Church in Corydon, and worked at the Gamble’s store and Casey’s General Store. She loved planting flowers every year and looked forward to her annual trips to the greenhouses each spring.
Preceding her in death was her husband of nearly 60 years, Dwight Shipley; parents, Howard and Ivah Boyce; mother and father-in-law, Everett and Ila Shipley; sisters, Vera Hamilton and Dorthea Carter; sisters-in-law, Merry Shipley and Helen Shipley; brothers-in-law, Charlie Hamilton, Reid Baker, Daryl Carter, Paul Shipley and Wayne Shipley; son-in-law, Charlie Canny and nephew, Richard Hamilton.
