JACKEY JO “JACK” DONALDSON
Jackey Jo “Jack” Donaldson, 80, of Lake Placid passed away suddenly Sept. 13, 2017, at Tampa General Hospital. Jack was born June 11, 1937, in Confidence, Iowa, to Edith (Brown) and Jack Donaldson. He attended Corydon High School and graduated with the class of 1955.
He attended Iowa State and graduated with a bachelors of science in chemical engineering in 1959. Jack married Janice Rider of Corydon in 1959. He started working for RR Donnelly and Sons, and Sunbeam. Then Jack began his 45 years of employment in the plastics industry, working for Mobil Chemical, Waste Management and Avery before retiring. His name is on five patents having to do with plastics and their development. He raised a family and lived in Illinois, New Jersey and upstate New York. After retiring, he moved to Lake Placid, Fla., from Chardon, Ohio, in 2003.
Jack was an avid reader who enjoyed a good novel, traveling the world to exotic locations including Russia, China, Africa, Egypt and most recently Mexico, volunteering with the Friends of the Lake Placid Public Library, a good game of cards, and cooking for his family and friends and a glass of Guinness.
Jack was a member of the Lake Placid Elks Lodge and was of the Christian faith.
His mother, Edith and his son, Jack, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his first wife, Janice, of Corydon; daughter, Cynthia of Otego N.Y., and his wife of 36 years, Susan, and their daughter, Elizabeth of Hamilton, N.J. and cousins, Shirley and Craig Paugh ,Stan and Vicky Brown and Richard and Gertrude Clark.
A service to celebrate Jack’s life was held Sept. 23 at the Scott Funeral Home in Lake Placid with Rev. Richard Norris officiating. His ashes will be placed in the Family Cemetery in Confidence at a later date.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, that a donation be made of a book or donation to your local library in Jack’s memory or to the Lake Placid Memorial Library “Friends of the Library” 205 W.
