Irene Marcusson, 85, passed away early Sunday morning Oct. 6, 2013, at the Schuyler County Nursing Home in Queen City, Mo.
She was born hear Sewal on March 6,1928, one of four children of Josie and John Ralston. Her early life was spent in Detroit, Mich., and Kansas City, Mo., and finally on a farm near Seymour. She loved living and working in the big city but returned to the farm to help her parents.
She met and married Jay “Speed” Marcusson on Nov. 27, 1946, in Allerton. To this union two children were born, Linda and Joe.
Since Jay was a trucker, they, including Linda, traveled to jobs all over Iowa and as far away as Little Rock, Ark. Not wanting to put Linda in School in Little Rock during the early 1960s, they returned to their home in Allerton where Jay started a rock/lime trucking business. Joe was born a year later.
Irene was a dedicated mother and housewife. She later joined the Avon Company as a sales representative. She loved showing new products to her customers and received many awards for her success with the company. She also was a member of several community organizations including the Chapter of Eastern Star. She enjoyed serving several years as an officer in the Eastern Star.
Irene and Jay enjoyed traveling and spending the winters in Arizona. After Jays death in 1984, Irene continued to spend her winters in Arizona. While in Arizona, she met Clare Bloomfield from Saginaw, Mich. They spent 13 years together in Arizona and Michigan. They enjoyed watching birds in the backyard and picking blueberries in July.
Her parents; husband, Jay; two brother and sister, preceded her in death. She is survived by daughter, Linda (Dan) Day; son, Joe Marcusson, two granddaughters, Tara and Lauren and great-grandson, Laine.
Graveside services will be held Oct. 26 at the Allerton Cemetery at 2 p.m.
