WOW!!! What a great way to start a new year at the Wayne Theatre. "Frozen" brought us some of the greatest audiences we have had in a long time. It is a perfect example of what happens when we have a blockbuster movie and the crowds stay home to see it.
There were a lot of out-of-towners, home for the Holidays that visited the movie theatre in which they grew up. Of course the lousy weather kept people off the roads also. Whatever the reason it was good to have such great crowds of our local residents and a lot of out-of-town visitors.
This week is another film that has been doing huge business around the country. "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" is PG-13 and really not for children. It has taken nine years to come up with a sequel to this Will Ferrell comedy that has grown more popular with age.
Ron Burgundy, (Ferrell) is now married to his co-anchor Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate). He is anticipating a promotion to lead anchor when the current lead steps down. That is the opening scene (a very funny cameo role from Harrison Ford).
It all takes Burgundy off guard when Veronica is named the new anchor and Burgundy gets the boot.
After nearly hitting rock bottom he is emcee for the Dolphin Show at San Diego's Sea World. Burgundy is recruited by a startup 24-hour news channel known as GNN.
The old news team is gathered together. They head to New York City and the hilarity continues. His news team from the first film is back and include some names that have become big stars in the meantime; Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, David Koechner, Fred Willard and Seth Rogen.
The film provides lots of laughs, but unfortunately it is not a great movie for children.
