DARRELL EUGENE BOULEY
Darrell Eugene Bouley, 63, of Corydon, died Jan. 21, 2010, at Mercy West Medical Center, West Des Moines. A celebration of life service was held Jan. 24 at Square One in Clive.

Darrell was born Jan. 12, 1947, to Eugene and Mabel Bouley in Colby, Kan.  He grew up in Kansas and moved to Iowa in 1970.  He managed Phillips 66 Service Stations until 1985. He operated Motocare in West Des Moines until he retired to rural Corydon. He was manager and was recently appointed President of SCICAP Credit Union in Leon.
 
 Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Barbara of Corydon; daughters Dana (Matt) Bouley and Dina (Gerald) Bechman; sons Ronald (Phyllis) Bouley and Ross (Tone) Porter, all of Des Moines; nine grandchildren; his mother Mabel Bouley of Topeka, Kan.; two sisters Sherry (Garry) Fleming of Norwalk and Val (Scott) Seely of Idaho Falls, Idaho; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene J. Bouley. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Lucas County.

EVERETT DALE BRINKLEY
Everett Dale Brinkley was born June 5, 1934, in Wayne County near Promise City to Effie and John Brinkley.

Everett attended school and graduated at Promise City with the class of 1951. Following graduation, he entered the U. S. Army in 1953, serving in the Korean War.

Everett attended and graduated from Centerville Junior College.

He was united in marriage to Shirley Trumper on August 11, 1957, and to this union three sons were born, Greg, Rick and Terry.

Everett was employed with Voltmaster Company for a period of time and then returned to further his education at Graceland College in Lamoni, where he received a teaching degree in art.

He taught one year at Bridgewater Fontanelle then returned to Corydon schools where he taught until his retirement.

Everett was very active in umpiring girls’ softball and boys’ baseball. He was inducted into the Iowa Umpire Hall of Fame, an honor he was so proud of. He enjoyed umpiring with his good friend Jerry Wetzel.

His mother, father, brother Jr. Harland Brinkley, half brother William Brinkley, niece Dixie Brinkley, sister-in-law Barbara Thomas and several aunts, uncles and cousins preceded Everett in death.

Those left to mourn his passing are his sons, Greg Brinkley, Morristown, Minn., Rick Brinkley of Corydon, and Terry and wife Teresa of Russell; two grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Traci Brinkley of Des Moines and Travis Brinkley of Centerville, and a host of many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were Jan. 27, from the Randolph Funeral Home in Corydon, with Pastor Leroy Perkins officiating. Geannie Radcliff sang “Amazing Grace,” “The Old Rugged Cross” and “In The Garden.”

Pallbearers were John Poston, Mike Perkins, Randy Searby, Kyle Hampton, Wayne Kuhns and Mike Schroeder. Honor bearers are Ken Scadden, Paul Brinkley, Bobby Brinkley, Travis Brinkley, Mike Coates and Ted Selby.
Interment was in the Corydon Cemetery, Corydon, with military rites by Russell E. Marshall American Legion Post 68.

Randolph Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

DOROTHY BAKER CONNER
Dorothy Baker Conner, 79, passed away at the Baptist Home in Ozark, Mo., on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010.

Dorothy was born on Sept. 13, 1930, in Wayne County, Iowa, to Franklin Alvin Baker and Leta Isis (Buoy) Baker. She was the youngest of five children. She was united in marriage to Raymond Junior Conner on Sept. 25, 1948. They had one daughter, Ann Christine.

Dorothy went one semester to Simpson College the summer after she graduated from Corydon High School. She returned to college 20 years later to pursue a teaching degree. At the age of 41, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Graceland College. She taught at Mercer, Mo., Lineville and Corydon for 22 years before retiring. Education was extremely important to Dorothy. She established the Raymond Conner Scholarship to help others realize their dreams. After her retirement, she became active in Daughters of The American Revolution and served as regent. She belonged to a few neighborhood clubs and was an active member of the Humeston Christian United Methodist Church. Dorothy was always willing to help the Cambria Baptist Church when they needed pies baked for the sale barn lunches. She was very conservation oriented and received an award for Rathbun Lake Protector in 2007 because of her efforts. Dorothy loved traveling and was able to visit five continents.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Ann (Dale) Davis, Nixa, Mo., two grandsons, Ried (Molly) Baker, Springfield, Mo., and Garth Baker, Nixa, Mo., sister Nell Fatland, New Orleans, La., and brother Gerald Baker, Cottonwood, Ariz.

Dorothy was preceded in death by Raymond in 1997, her parents, brother Don Baker and sister Mina Baker.

Funeral services were held at the Humeston Christian United Methodist Church on Jan. 26 at 10:30 a.m., followed by interment at the Corydon Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent either to the Corydon Public Library or the Humeston Public Library where she had loved reading to the preschoolers.

STEVEN CORBETT
Steven Corbett, 56, of Centerville died Jan. 22 at his home.
A memorial visitation was held Jan. 26 at the Lange Funeral Home, Centerville. Cremation was accorded.

CAROL M. THOMAS
Carol M. (Saxton) Thomas, daughter of Ralph and Bertha Saxton, was born July 9, 1925, in Lorimor. After a two-week health battle, she passed away Jan. 19, 2010, at the Wayne County Hospital in Corydon at the age of 84 years, 6 months and 10 days.

She was united in marriage to Doyle Thomas on Sept. 14, 1944, in Lawton, Okla., and four sons were born to this union.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; husband Doyle in 1996; son Don in 2009; granddaughter Cindy in 1994; sister Lorene Corsbie and husband Vernie; and two brothers, Paul and wife Bev Saxton and Galen Saxton.

She is survived by her three sons and their families, Dennis and wife Linda of Corydon; their son Trevor and wife Alisha, Unionville, Mo., and their children: Samantha, R.J., James, and Tierra and her daughter Aleigha of Corydon; Tim and wife Charlene and daughter Sarah of Windsor Heights; Terry of Des Moines and his daughter Heather and husband Jay Schroeder of Urbandale, daughter-in-law Diana and her sons Brian and wife Tricia, Jon and James of Germantown, Tenn., and numerous other relatives and friends.

Carol grew up in Union County, Iowa, graduating from Lorimor High School and attending one year at Simpson College. She was baptized in the Methodist Church in Lorimor in March 1940, joining the Methodist Church in Cambria in May 1964 and the Corydon United Methodist Church in October 1983. She was active in the church, which she dearly enjoyed. She loved quilting at the church and visiting with her church and quilt guild friends. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women’s group and enjoyed her volunteer work at the Prairie Trails Museum in Corydon.

Carol spent her middle years with Doyle farming in the Cambria community and raising their family. They retired in the late '70s and moved to their home in Corydon. Carol worked as a cook at the Cambria Grade School in the early '60s and spent 10 years working for the federal government at the ASCS office in Corydon. She worked at Crawford Tax and Insurance for 35 years doing income tax preparation.

Memorials have been established to the Corydon United Methodist Church, Prairie Trails Museum or Hospice of Central Iowa.

Funeral services were held Jan. 22 at the United Methodist Church in Corydon. The Rev. John D. Boatman and Pastor Diane Olson Schroeder officiated the service. Pianist was Marilyn Jackson. Vocalists were Georgia Runyon, Brenda Boatman and Wayne Jackson.

Musical selections were “Because He Lives” and “Morning Has Broken.”

Pallbearers were Dennis Thomas, Terry Thomas, Tim Thomas, Brian Thomas, James Thomas, Jon Thomas and Trevor Thomas.
Honor pallbearers were Heather Schroeder and Sarah Thomas.
Interment was at the Cambria Cemetery.
