A special meeting of the Wayne County Supervisors Feb 10 was well represented by county officials. Auditor Sue Ruble, Treasurer Kim Swearingin and Recorder Angie Horton (selection committee) were on hand to announce who would fill the remainder of the term that will be vacated when Charlie Horton leaves later this month.
Duffy Kester of rural Allerton came away as the committee’s top choice.
According to the group, 11 candidates were scheduled to interview for the position; one withdrew and two chose not to complete the interview process.
“There were a lot of good candidates,” stated Swearingin, “I hope they are interested enough to run later on.”
Angie Horton said it was a “really hard decision to make” and hoped she didn’t have to go through it again. Ruble commented, “All of the candidates seem to be genuinely interested in what happens to our county.”
Supervisors O’Dell and Greenlee said they had no objections with the committee’s choice and would welcome Kester to the board. They hope county residents will agree as well.
Kester’s appointment was made on Feb 10, public notices will be published on the 16 and the 18 followed by a 14-day waiting period. The appointment will be official on March 3.
