Hunter Cobb

Following the long Christmas break, it's time once again time for our Times-Republican Athlete of the Week selection. This week's selection goes to Wayne Falcon wrestler senior Hunter Cobb.

With a short school week in session following the break, the Wayne Falcon wrestling team traveled to Van Buren for their first invitational of 2019. The team was victorious at this meet placing first overall in team placement.

Cobb came home with a first place finish from Van Buren bringing his record to 17-4. His four losses coming from tough, top three ranked individuals.

Cobb is currently leading the Wayne wrestling team with 12 pins. This includes one takedown in 17 seconds.

Coming into his final high school season as a 2017 state qualifier. Cobb is sitting with 94 career wins.

"Hunter has a great double-leg takedown that is nearly impossible to defend against," said Wayne Falcon wrestling coach Joe Nekvinda.

With the cancellation of the Wayne Duals that was scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 12, the Wayne Falcons will travel to WACO (Wayland) on this date.

This week's Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Hy-Vee in Corydon. Cobb will be receiving a certificate of recognition from the Times-Republican and a gift certificate from Hy-Vee.
