After qualifying for the Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament, a send off was held for Hunter Cobb for his trip to “The Well”. Cobb, a Wayne Falcon senior, made his second appearance at state when he took to the mats in the 160-pound Class 1A meet on Feb. 14.

Cobb met up with Junior Bryson Freeberg of Tri Center in his first pairing of the day. Cobb’s attempts for a takedown came up short, when Freeberg was able to win the match by four points and go on to later finish seventh at state.

Later in the day, Cobb would meet up with his second opponent of the day in the consolation bracket where he came back a vengeance. Cobb defeated Senior Dan Burton by fall in 58 seconds, landing him the second fastest pin at state in the 160-pound Class 1A division. Following that win, Cobb would be returning for day two at state on Feb. 15.

Cobb’s next match against Elijah Wagner would go on to decision where Cobb fell short 3-5, ending his high school career with Wayne in the top 12 at state.
