Following interviews that were held the previous week, the Board of Supervisors held a special meeting on July 6 for the purpose of appointing a new Wayne County Treasurer to fill the recent vacancy.
“Kim Swearingin has been treasurer for the last 29 years, and she resigned last Friday, July 2,” began Supervisor Chairman Dave Dotts. “I would like to thank Kim for her service to Wayne County for those 29 years and I would like to wish her all the luck in future endeavors.”
Supervisor Don Seams noted two applications were received for the treasurer position.
“It was not an easy decision, with both applicants being excellent candidates,” stated Seams. “At this time I would like to make a motion to appoint Amanda Cooper as the Wayne County Treasurer. If Amanda accepts she will be treasurer until 2022 and at that time the voters will then decide.”
Cooper accepted the position of Wayne County Treasurer and was sworn in by Chairman Dotts, thanking the board for their appointment.
