After living in the Chicago, Ill. area for 20 years, Jordan Duerksen made the decision to move closer to his parents, Jerald and Janice Duerksen, which would bring him to Corydon. After taking a year off upon his arrival to our town, he began working from his home fixing computers and printers, which helped pave the path for his newest endeavor.
“My childhood was in seven different places, but I spent the last 20 years in Chicago,” said Duerksen. “Dad just retired from East Penn working from 1999 to 2018 and it took a little adjustment coming from Chicago area to rural Iowa, but I like it a lot better here. The sacrifices are worth it.”
Many may have noticed by now the new signage hanging in the window of the former Copy Plus store. IT on the Square is the newest business set to open its doors to cliental beginning Monday, April 8.
Duerksen isn’t new to the Internet Technology world as he holds a BS in Computer Science-Programming. After adjusting to life away from the bit city, he has helped numerous businesses and locals like with everything from home internet issues, printer and computer issues and more.
During his time here he has learned that isn’t a big need for programming in this area however he plans to offer a variety of services. Whether they are house or business calls or persons stopping into his store, he hopes to help in many areas including pc repair, pc tune-ups, trouble-shooting software and printer issues, malware and virus removal.
“You don’t really repair a pc now as it is more of a software issue, but I also get very commonly asked what should I buy and what brand is best?” said Duerksen. “I do plan to build computers as I have extensive knowledge and experience with that.”
Duerksen will carry inventory in his store including network cables, USB cords, adapters that cannot be found locally including HDMI, memory cards, flashcards and any computer hardware. The inventory will grow over time, and if a certain product cannot be found, you can inquire within.
Even though he is moving into the former U.S. Cellular agent location space, Duerksen has no intentions of working on cell phones or tablets. Instead he will be providing managed IT time.
This will be a service he provides to local businesses where they can pay him to be their local IT guy. In choosing him for these services, they will receive priority access.
Duerksen does have a basic website set up at www.itonthesquare.com as well as a Facebook page as IT on the Square where he can be reached. Business hours are set for Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and the contact phone number to contact the store is (641) 814-4141.
