Bret Whitehall

With the holiday season upon us next week, basketball has been in full swing for a few weeks now as we enter the fifth week of play. This week the Times-Republican Athlete of the Week comes from the Wayne Falcons boys basketball team.

This week's selection is Wayne Falcon junior Bret Whitehall. Whitehall is a new face on the court this season as this is his first year at Wayne since his move to the district from Texas.

With eight games uploaded onto quikstats currently, Whitehall has been a contribution offensively and defensively for the Falcons. With 67 points on the board he is averaging 8.4 points per game with a 42.4% free throw percentage from the charity stripe.

Whitehall has battled in the paint to nab 29 rebounds, with 16 defensive and 13 offensive grabs. He has also contributed eight assists and nine steals in Falcon contests. Whitehall has showed his aggressive play and hustle this season, as he has encountered foul trouble in a few matchups.

Whitehall and the Falcons are back in action again Tuesday, Dec. 18 following the Lady Falcons game which is set to begin at 6:15 p.m., with a home court advantage as the Central Decatur Cardinals come to town.

Sponsoring this week's Athlete of the Week is Ludlow's Steakhouse in Corydon. Whitehall will be receiving a certificate of recognition which can be picked up at the Times-Republican office and a gift certificate from Ludlow's Steakhouse that can be picked up during the restaurant business hours.
