Friends of Walden Park includes a group of local community members who volunteer their time in an effort to keep the park beautiful for all to enjoy. With the outdoor picnic shelter area, dog park, golf course and children’s playground, Walden Park has provided years of entertainment to families local and beyond.
Recently, the members from Friends of Walden Park have noticed the surface surrounding the play area has deteriorated. The wooden mulch that was once placed around the playground to help with safety for children has washed away over the years.
Seeing a need for an improvement, the members are planning to replace the wood chips with a rubber fiber along with new landscaping fabric this summer. They are hoping to have this completed by late July, but first they must acquire the funds.
They have applied for a grant, but are also hoping for donations to help them reach their goal. The estimate for the rubber fiber is $30,000. Volunteers will be doing the labor portion.
Knowing this playground has been enjoyed by many children throughout the years, the Friends of Walden Park know it is an asset to the community.
Anyone wishing to make a donation to this project can reach out to any of the Friends of Walden Park members including Lew Hickok, Eric Jaeckel, Steve Fortune, Brian Shelley, Mark Winslow or Kevin or Deb McDannald. Checks may be mailed or dropped off to the City of Corydon as well and those donating are reminded that it is a tax deduction.
