The Board of Supervisors held a special meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 2 to swear in newly elected officials within the county. Being sworn in during this meeting was Supervisor David Dotts after his re-election, newly elected Supervisor Tom Swearingin, re-elected Treasurer Kim Swearingin, and Recorder Angie Horton, appointed Deputy Recorder Rita Arnold and appointed Deputy Treasurers Laura Henderson Amanda Cooper.
Following Swearingin being sworn in onto the Board of Supervisors, the board decided to appoint Supervisor Duffy Kester as the Chairman and Supervisor Dotts as the Pro-Tem.
The supervisors approved a resolution for naming the official newspapers for Wayne County. Public notices were approved for publication in The Times-Republican, The Seymour Herald and the Humeston New Era.
Other resolutions being approved were the Discrimination Disclaimer for Wayne County to remain the same, GASB 34, Appraisal of an Estate for Inheritance Tax, the ability to suspend property taxes brought forth by the treasurer if need be, the resolution on the Fund Balance Policy for GASB 34, resolution to GASB Statement 51 and the Master Matrix Resolution.
With the addition of Swearingin on the board, it was discussed which meetings each board member would attend as a Wayne County representative.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 14 at 9 a.m.
