Cross Country runners selected as Co-Athletes of the Week

With the rain interfering with several dates throughout the season, the Wayne Cross Country teams were faced with meets being postponed and cancelled. Nevertheless, the Falcons made it to eight regular season meets.

Being selected this week for our Times-Republican Co-Athletes of the Week is Raegan Tilley and R.C. Hicks. Tilley is a senior at Wayne, while Hicks is a freshman.

This was Tilley's first season in cross country after a successful track performance her junior year. Having run in seven regular season meets this year, Tilley walked away a medalist in three of those events.

Tilley's highest placement was achieved at the Pleasantville meet where she came home with a 10th place finish and one of her personal best times of 23:04. This fall season also proved to be a busy one for Tilley as she was also a very active member of her high school football cheer squad.

Our second co-athlete Hick's, being in his first year of high school competition proved to be a valuable member for the Wayne squad. Competing in eight regular season meets, Hicks came home with an impressive five medals for his top placings.

With an incredible fourth place finish at Pleasantville, Hicks ran his personal best time of 18:05 at this meet. Hicks placed in the top ten at three different meets, with two of those finishes gaining him top five spots.

Having planned only to award only upper classmen with this award, we couldn't overlook how well this young high school athlete performed this season for the Wayne Falcons. With his upbeat attitude and hard work ethic, combined with great performances this season, Hicks deserved to be recognized.

Tilley was a member of the Lady Falcons softball team while Hicks was a member of the Falcons baseball team this past summer. Both are involved in multiple sports and school activities throughout the year.

With the rain ultimately cancelling the Pride of Iowa conference meet, their final meet was held in Marshalltown for the State Cross Country 1A District Meet. Tilley finished 81st while Hicks crossed the line in 40th place against very tough competition.

This week's Co-Athletes of the Week are sponsored by Gasland Express in Corydon. Please stop into the Times-Republican office to pick up your certificates and gift certificates during regular office hours.
