On a cold, windy day, members from the Wayne Falcon junior high cross country team traveled to Ankeny for the state meet. The 24th annual Dick Washburn Middle School Statewide Cross Country meet was held Saturday, Oct. 13 where seven members from the Wayne team competed.
Hagan Arnold left with the highest honors of the team finishing in third place overall in seventh grade girls 1A competition. Arnold finished in a time of 13:51 to earn the bronze medal.
The seventh grade boys fared well as their combined times earned them a third place overall team finish. Levi Moss was first to cross the finish line placing 14th with a time of 12:57. Coming in behind him was Rayce Snyder with a time of 13:55 for 23rd.
Coming in close behind was Kenton Prunty in 28th place with the time of 13:59 with Connor Pruiett right on his tail finishing in 30th with a final time of 14:02. With all four boys placing in the top 50, medals were awarded to them all.
Competing for the eighth grade girls was Ava Goben and Jocelyn Marquis. Both girls collected medals with their final times. Goben placed 30th with a time of 15:02 while Marquis came in 33rd with a time of 15:31.
With the never-ending rainfall received around the area and freezing temps, the junior high conference meet was cancelled, ending the season early for the Falcons.
