Joe Dean Sloan, 87, of Warrensburg passed away Nov. 20, 2019, at Western Missouri Medical Center.

Joe was born Oct. 25, 1932, in New York, Iowa, to Lewis and Jesse (Mitchell) Sloan. Joe had five sisters and four brothers. He attended school at Corydon.

Joe joined the United States Marine Corps serving his country for 20 years.

Joe was united in marriage to Joan Bartlett on Dec. 18, 1952. To this union five children were born: Linda, David, Laura, Lisa and Dennis. They later divorced.

Joe moved to Chanute, Kan., where he became a Shelter Insurance agent. He married Janice Robinson on Aug. 12, 1977. To this union he gained three stepsons: Randy, Rusty and Robby. They moved to Warrensburg, Mo., where he continued to work for Shelter Insurance. They later divorced.

Joe married Lauren C. Birdsall and gained two stepchildren, Erik and Cheryl.

Joe was quite the outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing, gooseberry hunting, mushroom hunting and he loved gardening. He was also active in Lions Club and Kiwanis. Joe was active in the VFW in Warrensburg and helped with many military funerals. 

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Max, Vaughn, Bob and Weston; sisters Sybil, Karen, Lois and Corrine; son David; four grandchildren; Jasmine, Michael, Keenan and Shelby; and son-in-law Lynn.

Left to mourn Joe are his wife Lauren; his children: Linda Rockhold, Laura McMurry,  Lisa (Ron) Hysell and Dennis (Edit) Sloan; sister Mary Lou McNeely (Don; stepchildren: Randy, Rusty, Robby, Erik and Cheryl; grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Memorials may be made in Joe’s name to Alzheimer’s Foundation.
