ROBERT (BOB) BURNS

Robert Eugene Burns passed away Jan. 18, 2019, at the Kavanagh House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa.

Bob was born June 5, 1928, to John and Maxine Burns in Clio, Iowa. He grew up west of Clio on the family’s grain and livestock farm where they raised registered shorthorn cattle. As a teenager he enjoyed hunting and trapping. He graduated from Lineville High School in 1945, and later earned a B.S. in Education from Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo. Throughout his life he managed the family farm, taught school, worked for the Iowa Department of Public Instruction and was a real estate broker.

He was a father figure for his siblings after their father passed away at an early age.

He is survived by his brother, Jerry (Phyllis) Burns; and sisters: Betty Empey and Karen (Jim) Pittman. Also, nephew John (Amy) Pittman; and great-nephew Nick Pittman. He cherished his family and the time he spent with them. He will be missed greatly and his absence will leave a huge void in their lives.

Per his wishes there were no services. There will be a private burial at the Clio Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Kavanagh House Hospice, 900 56th St., Des Moines, IA 50312.
