Ronald Francis Boyer was born in Sterling, Ill., on April 18, 1943, to Francis E. and Loretta (Billings) Boyer. He passed away Aug. 15, 2018, at Westview Acres in Leon, Iowa.

Ron was the oldest of four boys, Gary, Steve, and Randy. He grew up racing cars. He loved to drag race and has continued watching racing all of his life.

Ron graduated from Sterling High School in 1961, and went to work in the Foundry after graduation. In 1963, he married Kay J. Hall, and they had four sons, Brian, Brett, Bruce and Bart. Bart passed away at age two. The family moved to Novinger, Mo., in the early 1970s and raised their boys there.

Ron went to work driving a truck for Century Steps until that business closed. He then became an over the road truck driver for the remainder of his career. He worked for M.C.I. and won many awards. He was named Driver of Year on several occasions and won many safe driving awards as well

In 1992, his wife, Kay, lost her battle with cancer. Ron continued driving a truck and living in Novinger.

In 1995, M.C.I. went out of business so Ron was looking for a job. In the fall of the year he found a job with Weston Transportation in Kansas City, Mo., the same week he met a widow woman from Lineville. He joked that he got a new woman and a new job in the same week in September of 1996.

He went on to marry that widow woman, Judith Kay (Duncan) Hullinger, on July 7, 1997, and they lived happily ever after. They stayed in Novinger for a few years then relocated to Lineville, closer to Judy’s family.

Ron retired from Weston Transportation and Ron and Judy became snowbirds. They wintered in Pharr, Texas, for a few years. Ron loved it in South Texas and they made many friends in the park they stayed in. They continued until Ron became ill and could no longer make the trip.

Ron is survived by Judy Boyer of Lineville; three sons, Brian Boyer and friend, Christina Lucas, of Kansas City, Mo., Brett and Melody Boyer of Fulton, Ill., and Bruce Boyer of Columbus, Ohio; four stepchildren, Brenda and Richard Shields, Beverly and Steve Nordyke, Cherlyn Hullinger and friend, James McIntosh and Benji Hullinger and friend, Carolene Joiner, all of Lineville; 14 grandchildren; and nine great- grandchildren plus one expected this fall and his little dog, Chico; two brothers, Gary and Dana Boyer of Wellston, Okla., and Randy Boyer of Colorado.

His parents; infant son, Bart; great-grandson, Phillip Bell and brother, Steve Boyer, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at the Lineville Baptist Church in Lineville on August 21 with Pastor Kenny Wilson officiating.

Burial was in the Novinger Cemetery near Novinger, Mo. Arrangements were through the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa.

The family has designated a memorial fund to the Lineville Baptist Church.
