Jacinda Reed goes up for a big block during Wayne's conference win against Martensdale St. Mary's.

This week's selection for the Times-Republican Athlete of the Week is Wayne Falcon senior Jacinda Reed. Reed joined the Lady Falcons her junior year and is in her second season as a varsity starter for Wayne.

Before the match up against Martensdale St. Mary's on Tuesday, Oct. 2, where Wayne came away victorious after five sets, Reed was leading the Lady Falcons in serving aces having tallied up 10. She has been a valuable player on court for the Lady Falcons offensively and defensively.

As of press time, no stats have been posted from the previous week where the Lady Falcons picked up four wins from conference, non-conference and tournament action matches. Reed was sitting with 22 kills and tied for the top spot on her team with five solo blocks on the season as well.

Action at the net in attacks and blocks are a major character element for Reed. Versatility is the main feature of this athlete as she is a four-sport athlete being a key contributor in basketball, softball and track as well.

Reed and the Lady Falcons are back in action tonight, Monday, Oct. 8 as they begin play in the Pride of Iowa Conference tournament. Wayne will travel to Corning to take on Lenox at 6 p.m.

This week's Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Hy-Vee Market Deli in Corydon. Reed will be receiving a gift certificate donated by Hy-Vee.
